Awesome Interfaith Ketubah: Keep It Simple!

    by admin
    No comments yet

We definitely don’t discriminate against any Ketubah designs, we love them all! Searching for the perfect Ketubah design can be really difficult, but let’s be honest — searching for the perfect Interfaith Ketubah can be SUPER tricky. Wanting something that honors the Ketubah tradition, without being too heavily Jewish (something that can represent both partners!), while also searching for a color palette or art style that you both absolutely love. I get tired just describing it…

If there’s one thing The Office (a favorite TV show within our team!) taught us, it’s the important of K.I.S.S. — Keep It Simple Stupid! Sometimes simple can just be best. Our team put together a gallery of our favorite minimal designs — Ketubahs that contain just enough design and color to truly represent and highlight the Ketubah tradition, while not taking away from the beauty of an Interfaith union.

The Surrounded By Color Ketubah is definitely one of our favorites — it’s bright, it’s colorful… could you possibly need anything else?! Take a look at the Full Gallery Here!

Here’s a little secret: not only are we OBSESSED with making and selling gorgeous Ketubah designs, but we also just love weddings in general (surprise, surprise!). We love getting to know all of our Interfaith couples, and getting a better idea of what their vision is for their Ketubah, and their wedding in general! For some Interfaith couples their Ketubah is more about their life and relationship — they’re looking for a work of art that tells a story. And for many, many couples, they want their Ketubah to not just tell a story, but to also incorporate into their wedding day.

In honor of our new Ketubah today (The Paper Cranes Ketubah), we decided to give our Interfaith couples, a few of our favorite wedding ideas to go along with this GORGEOUS new design. Wether one or both of you have Japenese heritage, or you simply love the Paper Crane look — these ideas will give you the perfect, fresh wedding inspiration!

We love the idea of ditching the typical origami paper and making it a bit more modern with this bright and colorful translucent paper. Buy this Origami Paper here!

We love creating Interfaith Ketubahs — not only because we’re passionate about helping couples find their perfect Ketubah, but because there’s something truly beautiful about the blending of two cultures, beliefs, and lives. Whether there’s one couple who subscribes to the Jewish faith and their partner doesn’t or both partners subscribe to two different specific faiths, the ability to create a work of art that represents them both is truly exciting! Every so often (okay, probably on a weekly basis!), we come across Ketubahs that we really fall in love with. This week we’re excited to spot light The Dalecarlians of Love Ketubah — a Jewish Ketubah featuring Swedish folk art and the classic Swedish red horses:

Today’s interesting interfaith Jewish-non-Jewish news: according to Pew’s massive survey about contemporary Jewish life, 71% of non-religious Jews marry non-Jews. In their words:

Overall, the intermarriage rate is at 58 percent, up from 43 percent in 1990 and 17 percent in 1970. Among non-Orthodox Jews, the intermarriage rate is 71 percent.

More and more couples are mixed. Here at Interfaith Ketubahs, we love mixing the world together!

Pope Francis Met with Jewish Committee Members… and it was Awesome!

    by admin
    No comments yet

Recently Pope Francis welcomed the Jewish Committee Members to the Vatican, a continual effort to reach out to the Jewish community. Not only has he consistently worked to build relationships between the Jewish and Catholic communities, but he even specifically emphasizes the importance of Interfaith outreach.

Of course, our Interfaith Ketubah team loves this and we are totally behind better relationships between faiths — whether it be friendship, marriage, charity, or community. Some of our team members are from Argentina (where Pope Francis is from!!!) and we happen to also work with a lot of artists and couples who have connections to Argentina — we connect to this on so many different levels.

Pope Francis’ messaged was summed up with an invitation:

…To find ways in which Jews and Christians can cooperate in constructing a more just and fraternal world.

An interfaith relationship opens up so many truly wonderful and beautiful things on both sides. Life is too short to not embrace the beauty of different foods, languages, beliefs, ideas, and cultures. And for us, an Interfaith Ketubah means TWICE the amount of awesome ideas to pull and incorporate into a work of art that is not only beautiful, but so so meaningful.

We loved this article and as always, continue to follow Interfaith news around the world. Click here to read the full article!

Facebook: A Map To Our Interfaith Love Lives

    by admin
    No comments yet

Facebook’s Data Science Team recently put out an analysis of a study conducted among couples and their likelihood to marry and/or date within or outside their religion. Of course our team at Interfaith Ketubahs couldn’t have been more excited to read up on this (not only are we Interfaith, but well all love Facebook and are total nerds!!)

There was a lot of interesting results ranging from Expected vs. Actual Same Religion Relationships, how many people actually consider themselves under a particular religion at all, and the percentage of Same-Religion Relationships within the United States. Click here to see the full article!!

What we found to be the most interesting? Within the United States, Jews were much more likely to marry outside of their religion!!!

Well we could’ve told you that ;)

What are some Synonyms for Interfaith Marriages?

    by admin
    No comments yet

Interfaith weddings can go by many different words! And for the Ketubah… even more!

Sometimes, we call it “interfaith wedding” or “interfaith marriage.”

But sometimes, it is called a “mixed marriage” or “mixed wedding.”

When we speak (outside of the Ketubah world… back in the real-world!), probably the most common phrase is, “intermarriage.” Ketubah artists don’t say this much, but normal folk, do. Ketubah artists certainly aren’t normal :)

What’s interesting is the relationship between the word and Judaism. When these words are usually used, one partner is often Jewish, and one isn’t. But it can also refer to any combination: Muslim-Protestant, Hindu-Buddhist or you mix-and-match the religions!

Whatever word we use for the mixing and intermingling of everyone… we love it!

    Even more on Muslim-Jewish Intermarriages

    by admin
    No comments yet

We’re on a roll with lots of information about Jewish-Muslim intermarriages, and their ketubahs!

Here’s another great article, from the Guardian in England, about how there’s a small but increasing number of Jewish-Muslim intermarriages in the UK.

    An excerpt:

The one golden rule is for couples to discuss everything in advance – not just the honeymoon, but home rituals, initiation rites and the involvement of extended family – so that there are no running sores or unexpected hiccups.

And if successful Jewish-Muslim marriages in Britain can be a living example to their co-religionists in the Middle East that peace between them is possible, then maybe God will be smiling too.

This vision, of everyone mixing together, is a vision we love and support 1000% here at Interfaith Ketubahs.

Whether Jew-Muslim or Jew-Catholic or Jew-Hindu — or even Hindu-Muslim or Catholic-Protestant or any combination! — we think it’s wonderful when you follow your heart, and find your beshert (your destined soulmate, in Hebrew). No matter who or where he is!

Wonderful and Honest Article on Jewish-Muslim Intermarriages

    by admin
    No comments yet

I just finished reading a wonderful article about a Muslim woman who married a Jewish man. What makes this article so profound is that it eschews the obvious and usual superficiality — instead, revealing their deep inner personality flaws and challenges they face not just with the relationship, but with themselves.

    An excerpt:

There are obviously a number of problems that I need to address, like, for instance, the ethics of this man pretending to be a Muslim so that he can marry me, the strain of the compromises we’d be making on us individually, and on myself — I’d have to leave my mental health nonprofit plans (inspired by own bouts of depression and rage during our relationship) in India behind to settle down in the States and give up ever really living there. He’s made it clear he can’t, which makes sense — it’s not politically very safe for a Jewish man to be married to a Muslim girl from the hood, ya know?

Wow — he will pretend to convert, just to please her family! And that might not go over well with, well, anyone!

In general, here at Interfaith Ketubahs, we’re fans that love conquers all — but it can be a very very hard quest for the conquering. Sometimes even a pyrrhic one. But you need to try.

The Jews and Muslims have historically been at arms with each other. And we can think of new better solution than for everyone to fall in love with everyone else, mixing the entire world together — while preserving their most powerful and most amazing contributions.
